Feeding Texas: Carlson’s Christmas Miracle

Christmas Miracle 2024

The Carlson Law Firm’s 7th Annual Carlson’s Christmas Miracle continued its tradition of giving back, expanding our reach to support families and communities in ways that go beyond legal representation. This year, Carlson’s Christmas Miracle had a special focus: Feeding Texas.

With the rise of grocery costs, the firm realized that now more than ever, our communities are facing food insecurity and that we can make a difference. We are honored to share the meaningful moments from this year’s event, highlighting the inspiring people and organizations we have been able to help.

Wyatt Storey – Temple, Texas

One of the individuals who was nominated for Carlson’s Christmas Miracle is 22-year-old Wyatt, who is nothing short of inspiring. After tragically losing his mother last year, and despite the heartbreak, Wyatt stepped up to care for his younger siblings. Wyatt refused to let them be separated, fighting for full guardianship to ensure they remained together. He now supports his four younger siblings on his income alone.

Wyatt and his family were nominated for Carlson’s Christmas Miracle by Jenn Wiser, a registrar at Lake Belton Middle School. Inspired by Wyatt’s courage and sacrifice, she became a champion for the family, regularly assisting the family with food and other necessities.

A Big Brother’s Love

When we learned about Wyatt’s story, we were moved by his selflessness and determination to be a father figure to his siblings. In addition to caring for them, Wyatt is also working hard to renovate a rundown barn house on their property, which will take time and resources to transform into a proper home.

“I didn’t want them going nowhere, and neither did the family. So I decided to go ahead and step in and take on the responsibility… It’s been pretty rough, but I put on a good face for them.”

Wyatt’s strength, courage, and unwavering commitment to his siblings exemplify the true meaning of Christmas—it’s not about material gifts, but about being there for the ones we love.

How Carlson Helped

Wyatt and his four little brothers all received warm coats, clothing, and shoes to make sure they are prepared for the colder months. Of course, they also received Christmas gifts, decorations, activities, and sweet treats to help make the season bright.

In addition, Wyatt received a $500 HEB gift card, the first of 12 to be given every month for the next year. “The Carlson Law Firm helped me out more than I could ever have even thought of,” said Wyatt. “The food for a year…I was completely stumped on that one. My family is incredibly happy.”

The monthly gift cards are a result of this year’s special focus on Feeding Texas by fighting food insecurity. Our goal is to ensure these families are well-fed by easing the burden of grocery expenses, giving them peace of mind and room to focus on other priorities.

The Springs Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center – Cedar Park, Texas

Our team in Round Rock paid a special visit to The Springs Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center to spread some holiday cheer. They helped bring the warmth and joy of the holiday season to residents by handing out blankets, fuzzy socks, handwritten cards, and other gifts.

“It’s a good reminder that no matter what season we are in our life, that we can always give back to our community and put a smile on someone else’s face,” said attorney Cheryl Powell.

For many seniors, the holidays can be a lonely time, and we’re honored to bring a little comfort to their lives. These gifts, ideal for the upcoming holiday season, were more than just material items—they were a heartfelt symbol of The Carlson Law Firm’s care and commitment to the community.

Augustina Munoz – Bryan, Texas

Another individual who was nominated for Carlson’s Christmas Miracle was Augustina, a single mother of nine. Augustina is well-known for giving back to her community despite being in need herself. With six children still living in her house, the youngest being less than two years old, Augustina can only work part time, which has put a strain on the family’s budget.

Augustina was nominated for Carlson’s Christmas Miracle by her 17 year-old daughter, Aaliyah. After seeing her mom constantly giving back to others, she wanted her to know what it felt like to get something back. In her nomination, Aaliyah also mentioned that she knew her mother would use the gift to help others as well.

Giving Back Blessings

After reading Aaliyah’s description of her mother’s charitable and compassionate heart along with her humble request that her mother receive something in return, we knew we wanted to help. Augustina clearly sets an example of kindness for her children and is teaching them to give to others as well as receive blessings when they are given.

“I’ve always been the giver to anybody and everybody, so being able to receive the blessing…speaks a lot to me,” said Augustina. “It shows me that what I’m doing is right and to continue doing what I do.”

“There’s not a better mom I could wish for,” said Aaliyah. “She always puts her kids before her all the time, no matter what the case is…Without her I wouldn’t be where I am right now.”

We are thankful we had the opportunity to give back to Augustina, who gives so graciously to others around her. It was a meaningful moment and powerful reminder of our firm’s belief that those who are blessed should be a blessing to others.

How Carlson Helped

Augustina and her six children all received new clothing and shoes to help make the new year a little easier for the family. Additionally, the family received Christmas gifts, festive decorations, fun activities, and some candy to help them celebrate the holidays.

Finally, Augustina received her first $500 HEB gift card. Augustina expressed her excitement and gratitude, saying that she will “[be] able to go to the grocery store and tell [her] kids ‘Yeah, you can have that!’” and buy brand name foods.

With $500 going towards groceries each month for a year, we are hopeful that Augustina and her family will be well-fed and have more peace of mind. This will allow Augustina to focus on what matters most: her family.

Return to the Food Care Center – Killeen, Texas

After last year’s surprise delivery at the Food Care Center, The Carlson Law Firm returned, hoping to make an even bigger impact this year. The first 300 clients of the Food Care Center were surprised and delighted to receive $30 gift cards and special insulated bags packed with hygiene items, such as shampoo, body wash, and toothpaste. In addition, those with children also received a wrapped toy for each child from The Carlson Law Firm.

Making a Bigger Impact

Craig Carlson, the firm’s Managing Partner, shared his thoughts on giving back to the Killeen community at the Food Care Center. “What makes me feel so special about this is the joy it brings to them, but also the emotion and thanks they give back,” said Craig.

The Carlson Law Firm’s return to the Food Care Center event highlighted the firm’s commitment to making a difference in the community beyond its offering of legal services. By offering material support and financial assistance this holiday season, the firm showcased its compassion and solidified its role as an engaged and supportive community member.

Looking Ahead: Continuing Our Mission of Compassion

Carlson’s Christmas Miracle is just one of the ways we strive to give back and strengthen our communities. We’re committed to finding new and meaningful ways to support those in need, not just during the holidays but throughout the entire year.

We hope that the stories of these families and organizations, and the countless others we’ve encountered through this event, remind us all of the importance of selflessness, compassion, and showing up for one another—especially when it matters most.
