With a desire to understand the daily implications of the legal system and seek justice for the hurting, Laura Smith attended Texas A&M University School of Law where she earned a Juris Doctorate. On her way to her legal degree, she also obtained a B.A. in Government from The University of Texas at Austin, complemented by a Minor in German and a Public Policy Certificate.
Laura was admitted to the Texas State Bar in 2021 and is licensed to practice in the United States District Courts in the Northern Texas District and Eastern Texas District. Before joining The Carlson Law Firm in August 2023, Laura enriched her professional experience at the Texas Office of the Attorney General and other private law firms.
Laura’s practice focuses on two crucial areas: Medical Malpractice and Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect. Laura is dedicated to providing invaluable support to those facing distressing situations, aiming to alleviate their burdens and seek a just resolution.
Personal Motivation
Laura’s decision to become an attorney was deeply rooted in her desire to impact lives positively. Based in Texas, Laura’s journey in law began with a question and a profound realization. Laura wondered how the intricate threads of law weave into our society’s way of life. Laura’s curiosity led her down the path of becoming a lawyer, realizing along the way how the law profoundly influences our daily lives and learning how she could make an impactful difference to others.

Laura’s commitment to the legal community is evident through her memberships in several esteemed organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association, and the Austin Black Lawyers Association, to name a few. Her accolades, such as the Order of the Barristers from Texas A&M University School of Law and her notable performances in various national moot court competitions, further underscore her expertise. But it’s not just about the degrees and accolades for Laura. It’s the heart of her job that keeps her going. Every day, clients walk into her office with challenges, seeking guidance and support. For Laura, the most rewarding aspect is knowing she can help people going through some of life’s most difficult situations.

During her personal time, Laura enjoys unwinding with gardening, baking, and Pilates.
