AUSTIN, Texas — The Carlson Law Firm secured a $1.5 million settlement for a client…
In the early hours of Thursday, Dec. 23, an ExxonMobil oil refinery explosion in Baytown, Texas left four injured.
Local sheriff’s deputies have called the explosion a major industrial accident. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, at least four people were injured. One victim is in critical but stable condition and three others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire started around 1 a.m. Thursday and burned well into the daylight hours before the company confirmed it had been extinguished in a press release around 9 a.m.
ExxonMobil confirmed that all of its employees had been accounted for and those who were hospitalized are reportedly in stable condition.
What started the ExxonMobil Fire in Baytown?
Currently, Harris County Fire Marshal’s officials are investigating the overnight fire at the ExxonMobil Baytown refinery. In fact, investigators have already begun the process of interviewing those who were present when the fire broke out, including those hospitalized. In addition to taking statements, investigators will look at the physical evidence to see if what witnesses say matches.
Reportedly, flames broke out in an area of the refinery that produces gasoline. According to Rachel Neutzler of Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire involved the chemical naphtha—a highly flammable liquid.
“We’ll take all the interviews. We’ve pulled some of the social media pictures and visuals that we’ve seen, and then we’ll work again with ExxonMobil,” Neutzler said. “If they’ve got any security footage on site that we can look at, and we’ll determine exactly, ‘Was there an explosion and then a fire? Was there a fire then an explosion? What was that sequence of events that happened?’”
