One person is dead after a fiery wreck involving an 18-wheeler carrying thousands of gallons of fuel crashed in Nolanville, Texas, at 6:08 a.m. on April 24.
Bell County Emergency Management responded to the fatal accident in the early morning on westbound I-14 near Paddy Hamilton Road. Five vehicles were involved in the wreck—including an 18-wheeler transporting roughly 8,500 gallons of fuel.
According to officials, the wreck was the result of a series of different collisions that occurred.
Officials say the initial accident occurred between a Pontiac and an 18-wheeler transporting lumber. Because the Pontiac became disabled, the driver attempted to flag down traffic. A driver in a pickup truck stopped to render aid.
“Unfortunately, a silver vehicle later lost control and collided with that pickup,” said James Stafford, Bell County Spokesman. “Fortunately, all the drivers and passengers of the four vehicles could clear the area before the 18-wheeler fuel transport collided with all the vehicles.
Four other people involved in the wreck were transported to a nearby medical facility with minor injuries. Two others refused care at the scene.
Bell County officials expect the westbound side of I-14 between Simmons and Paddy Hamilton Road to be shut down for most of the day.
Our prayers are with the lost soul of today’s crash.
No one can expect when a fuel tanker explosion may occur. Fuel tanker accidents can be particularly hazardous due to the flammable and explosive nature of the cargo being transported. These accidents have severe consequences, including loss of life, environmental damage, and property destruction.
