Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week Observed in Event Hosted by The Carlson Law Firm

KILLEEN, Texas ā€” The Carlson Law Firm will honor the lives of fallen police officers on May 15 during a memorial ceremony to observe Peace Officers Memorial DayĀ and Police Week. In addition to a service honoring the fallen and their families, the firm will present two local non-profit organizations with $1,500 checks, totaling $3,000. The event and check presentation will occur at 9 a.m. at The Carlson Law Firmā€™s Killeen Office located at 100 E. Central Texas Expy.

In addition to the check presentation, Managing Partner Craig Carlson will speak on behalf of the firm about the importance of supporting officers in our community and beyond. Chairman of the Killeen Police Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (L.E.A.F.), Thomas Sinkey, a former military police officer, and Etta Moore, the Executive Director of the 100 Club of Central Texas will also deliver remarks.Ā Families of critically injured first responders will also be in attendance at the event.

ā€œFar too often the men and women in blue are unappreciated for all the good they do in our community,ā€ Carlson said. ā€œPolice officers are the first people many of our clients tell their stories to. Whether its an assault or a car accidentā€”our firm has close working relationships with several agencies in the Central Texas community. We want these men and women to know that we care about them and their families and support their efforts.ā€

So far in 2019, there have been 39 officers killed in the line of duty in the U.S. According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, there have been three officer deaths in Killeen since 1917. In recent memory, Killeen Police Officer Robert Layden Hornsby was killed on July 14, 2013, and Detective Charles David Dinwiddie was killed on May 11, 2014.

Event attendees will be treated to a light breakfast.
